During the summer there is almost nothing more enjoyable than a glass of quality white or pink wine and light snacks. In Serbian wine culture the “spritzer” is especially appreciated, especially on a hot summer day. In this mixture of white wine and soda water a icu cube is often placed. Sometimes a pink wine is used, and when the mineral water is used, a real expert will order the “gemischt”.
This summer, we had the opportunity to try the wine in a slightly different manner. In wine culture ice is not welcomed in wine. However, lately there are more and more wine lovers who are encouraged to try something new and go a step further when wine pleasure is at stake. The same as the “spritzer” arrived from Germany and Austro-Hungary into Serbian wine culture, a custom from France is arriving – to add a one or two ice cubes in a light summer white and pink wine. This idea gets an increasing number of supporters, and has already become a practice with an interesting name – La Piscine de Rosé (or La Piscine de Blanc), which literally translated means “a pool of roses“. Unusual, is it not?
The seemingly unusual thing is actually quite simple. We opened a previously chilled bottle of quality rose wine Vicentino Rose. After opening we added a ice cube, we stirred pink wine in a glass and enjoyed the premiere of wine refreshment.
The choice of wine is the most important thing – you must choose that light, refreshing, and not strong wine. Choose the ones with refreshing character whose flavors and aromas won’t be lost under the bite of ice: let it be a quality pink wine of pleasant fruity or floral aromas with sparkling nuances or white-laced noise, semi-flat and elusive in its flutter.
In the end, it’s only important to enjoy a glass of summer refreshing wine – with or without ice.
